The challenge

Most unconscious bias training has the same problem. It either lectures people until they switch off, or it makes them so worried about saying the wrong thing that nothing sinks in. The organisation wanted something different: training that helps people understand how bias actually works and reflect on their own thinking, without blame or box-ticking.

Bias is also a hard thing to teach, because by definition people cannot see their own. The course needed to surface those hidden assumptions gently, in a way that felt like a realisation rather than an accusation.

What we did

We built the course around the idea that bias sits mostly below the surface. An interactive iceberg lets learners explore the conscious, preconscious and unconscious mind and see how much of our thinking happens automatically. From there, an audio story asks learners to picture the people involved, then reveals who they actually were, so the gap between assumption and reality becomes their own quiet lightbulb moment.

Throughout, the tone stays warm and curious rather than corrective. Flip cards, reflective prompts and everyday scenarios give people room to think, and the whole module is designed to be accessible and easy to complete in one sitting.

The result

The course is built to move bias training from a compliance tick to a genuine moment of reflection. Instead of telling people what to think, it gives them a safe way to notice their own patterns, which is what actually shifts behaviour. It is self-paced, accessible and consistent, so an entire workforce can go through the same experience.
