The challenge
Setting up a syringe pump for palliative care leaves no room for guesswork. Health professionals need to safely set up, commence and document infusions on the NIKI T34, T34 and BodyGuard T syringe pumps, and be able to show they can do it competently.
Queensland Health needed learning that could build that skill and confidence clearly and consistently, as part of the wider caring@home and end-of-life care support we were redesigning for clinicians.
What we did
We designed and developed a Storyline course focused on the practical skill of running a syringe pump infusion, built alongside the rest of the redesigned caring@home suite. The learning breaks the process into clear stages, setting up, commencing and documenting an infusion, and uses guided walkthroughs and video of the real devices so clinicians can see each step in context.
Knowledge checks and a final assessment let learners confirm their understanding and work towards demonstrating competency, and the course was packaged for LMS delivery and tracking alongside the rest of the suite.
The result
Clinicians get a straightforward, practical way to build and prove their competency with palliative care syringe pumps. By making the setup process easy to follow and easy to revisit, the course supports safe, confident use of the devices where it matters most, in real end-of-life care.
