The challenge
Queensland Health asked us to redesign the caring@home module for Aboriginal Health Workers, supporting them to use the caring@home resources when helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families provide palliative care at home. The existing module needed a refreshed experience that better reflected the purpose of the initiative and felt genuinely relevant and inviting for this audience.
As optional professional development, it had to be more than information. The redesign needed to respect the role Aboriginal Health Workers play, support culturally responsive care, and give practical guidance they could use when supporting mob and families, all while handling sensitive healthcare content with care.
What we did
Working closely with Queensland Health stakeholders, we redesigned and rebuilt the module in Storyline, keeping it true to the caring@home initiative while adapting the experience for Aboriginal Health Workers and the communities they support. We developed a refreshed visual design aligned to the caring@home Aboriginal Health Worker branding and reworked the interface to feel welcoming and accessible, built around community, connection and support.
Custom interactive elements, including hotspot interactions, guide learners through the key resources, and we wove in videos, practical resources, reflective activities and knowledge checks to keep engagement meaningful. Intuitive navigation makes it easy to explore and revisit topics, and we built a reusable Storyline framework to keep future caring@home resources consistent. The module was configured for LMS delivery and completion tracking, and the activity was endorsed by the National Association of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners.
The result
The redesigned module gives Aboriginal Health Workers a practical, engaging experience that supports them in the important work of guiding families through palliative care at home.
By bringing together thoughtful instructional design, culturally responsive visuals and practical resources, it makes essential palliative care information easier to reach, helping Aboriginal Health Workers support mob and families with confidence during end-of-life care.
